Dixieland delight? Alabama at tennesee game preview
Tennesee looks to get their revenge from a year ago against the Tide

Alabama needs a bounce-back after a heartbreaking loss a week ago, but they will have to go through their rival to do so.

Alabama and Tennesee are set to face off in 2026's edition of one of the SEC's best rivalries, and the stakes for the SEC and the CFP could not be higher.

Tennesees 2026 season has been defined by inconsistency. Inconsistent play from true freshman QB Brandon Faizon led to HC Josh Heupel benching Faizon for junior George Macyntire.

Macyntire led the Volunteers to a strong victory a week ago, and enters this matchup against Alabama looking to prove himself in a massive way.

Alabama on the other hand, needs to curb costly penalties, and improve offensive production against an experienced Volunteers defense.

This game has all the makings of a low-scoring defensive slugfest.

What to Expect

A worrisome stat for this Alabama offense and OC Ryan Grubb is the lack of a true WR1.

While sophomore QB Keelon Russell has played well to start the year, the Tide's offense saw Ryan Williams lead the team in receiving yards with just 39 yards a week ago.

For the Tide to move the ball against an experienced Volunteers secondary, they will need an alpha like Williams or slot receiver Rico Scott to break out and emerge as WR1.

On the ground, however, the Tide have seemingly found their rotation. Daniel Hill, EJ Crowell, and Trae'shaun Brown have formed one of the SEC's best running back trios.

Expect Alabama to run the ball heavily against a Tennesee defense that has allowed 5.3 yards a carry to start the year.

For the Volunteer's, the offense will live and die by RB Desean Bishop. Bishop led the offense with a whopping 138 yards and 1 TD a week ago at Arkansas, and has emerged as a potential first-round draft pick at RB. Bishop will be the central key player for this Volunteers offense on Saturday.

Through the air, Tennesee's offense will be heavily limited by the QB room's inconsistency.

While Braylon Staley and Mike Matthews are a good WR duo, Alabama's experienced secondary with Keon Sabb, Zabien Brown, Bray Hubbard, and Dijon Lee will have the matchup advantage.

Keys to the Game

For Tennesee, the key to the game is to make this an old-school slugfest. The Volunteers have an elite defensive line that has produced quite well as pass rushers.

The Vols defense will have loads of oppurtunities to sack Keelon Russell, and can move the ball through the ground in the same way Georgia did a week ago.

For the Tide, the key to this game lies in making this game a shootout. If DeBoer can create a back-and forth offensive game where Tennessee’s inconsistent QB position is forced to make plays, Alabama has the edge.

Look for Desean Bishop, George Macintyre, and Rico Scott to define the outcome of this game.

Writers Prediction:

Alabama wins 20-10
