narrow escape: oregon vs boise state game recap

Coming into this action-packed Week One slate, Oregon was the favorite in their Week One matchup against Boise State by 24.5 points. However, that simply just wasn't the case. Squeaking out this week's win 34-27, Oregon had some stars shine and save the day for a team that as a whole played at an extremely disappointing level. 

Dante Moore played amazingly for the Ducks. Moore threw for 378 yards, on an impressive 76% completion rate while throwing for 3 touchdowns. Sophomore receiver Jeremiah McClellan had a monster game with 6 receptions for 150 yards and a score, in addition to Dakorien Moore’s 6 receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown. Oregon fans hope that Dakorien can add to that performance in week 2, against Oklahoma State. 

On the defensive side of the ball, star Minnesota safety transfer Koi Perich showed why he was one of the top players in the portal this offseason. Perich had a solid showing with 11 total tackles and was flying all over the field. On top of that, Bear Alexander, Teitum Tuioti, and Matayo Uiagalelei, all tallied a sack each. A bright spot for Ducks fans should be the depth the Defensive-line showed on Saturday. However, the Ducks are going to need to stop the run much more efficiently if they want to succeed in Big Ten play.

Boise State: 

Broncos Quarterback Maddux Madsen came into Oregon as an extreme underdog, but took the crowd in Autzen by storm by managing the Boise State offense extremely efficiently. Madsen went 15/29, throwing for 181 yards and a whopping 3 touchdowns, propelling the Broncos to almost beating the Ducks. 

Outside of Madsen, the ball was spread pretty wide with various receivers getting 20+ yards in the air. True freshman Rasean Jones led the way with 4 catches for 76 yards. Expect Jones to breakout against lesser competition for the Broncos.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Broncos were very on point. The team had a total of 63 total tackles and 6 TFLs. The overall statistical leader for the Broncos defense was Linebacker Travis Anderson, who had 11 total tackles, 6 solo tackles, and half a TFL. 

For both the Broncos and Ducks, the kickers were solid as well. Boise State kicker Canaan Moore went 2/2 on FGs and Oregon kicker Gage Hurych went 2/2 on FGs as well.

All in all, Boise State proved that they are a good team in the newly rebuilt Pac-12 and Oregon showed that they have some holes and kinks to work out going into week 2 against Oklahoma State. Boise State hopes this is their last loss of the year and the Ducks hope this is the last time they win by anything less than double digits.
